6 (1) Subject to these Regulations, the Board may accept as standards of construction the standards set out in the current edition of the construction rules published by Lloyd’s Register of Shipping, Bureau Veritas, American Bureau of Shipping, Det Norske Veritas, Germanischer Lloyd, Registro Italiano or Nippon Kaiji Kyokai.

Fresh ties can therefore be expected, or old ones could be strenghtened, between ; - the Commission of the European Communities and the Na- tional Bureau of Standards, under the US Department of Commerce; - CEN/CENELEC, the ECPT and the American National Standards Institute, BELL Communications Research Inc (BELLCORE) and the Exchange Carriers Standards Association (ECSA); - European testing and type-approval laboratories and the Corporations for Open Systems (COS) in the USA.

Five of them right now are authorized in Canada. We have Lloyd's Register of London; we have the Germanischer Lloyd, which is the German classification society; we have Det Norske Veritas from Norway; Bureau Veritas from France; and the American Bureau of Shipping from the United States.
