It should be remembered that the clearance of the accounts requires the Commission to assure itself, principally by way of on-the-spot investigations that the Member States have correctly used the funds put at their disposal by the EAGGF (over 150 investigations relating to the 1992 expenditure were carried out by the Commission at Member State level).
