As I have, in fact, mentioned before, both yesterday in this Chamber and on other occasions, the EU’s capacity to implement an energy strategy – and one that is not just sustainable but also autonomous – and thus its independence from the power games and economic interests that are often at work behind the scenes in this sector is a decisive factor in meeting so many of the global challenges that await us in the near future, not only in terms of competitiveness, but also with regard to the political and strategic weight that the European Union wishes to have and could obtain.
En fait, comme je l’ai déjà mentionné, hier devant notre Assemblée et à d’autres occasions, la capacité de l’Union européenne à mettre en œuvre une stratégie énergétique - qui soit non seulement durable mais aussi autonome - et, partant, son indépendance par rapport aux jeux de pouvoir et aux intérêts économiques qui interviennent souvent en coulisses dans ce domaine, est un facteur décisif pour répondre à de nombreux défis mondiaux qui nous attendent dans un avenir proche, non seulement en termes de compétitivité, mais aussi en ce qui concerne le poids politique et stratégique que l’Union européenne souhaite avoir ou pourrait obtenir.
