While I applaud Mr García-Margallo's heroic efforts on aircraft fuel, I am afraid I cannot agree with his stance on VAT in e-commerce because I think that the Commission's proposal sends out the wrong signal.

We must therefore recognise that the García-Margallo y Marfil report is much better and much more useful than Mr Trentin’s, now that it has been cut to ribbons by the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs. Be that as it may, I have long acknowledged that Mr García-Margallo y Marfil has demonstrated considerable qualities in his role as a rapporteur. As Mr Langen said, the Trentin report is clearly not actually a report drawn up by Mr Trentin.

The European Competition Day will be opened by Spanish Minister Rato and will see interventions by Mr Monti as well as by the Vice-President of the European Parliament's Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs, José Manuel Garcia-Margallo, Spanish Director general of competition Luis Guindos and the head of Spain's consumer association Francisco Javier Angelina.
La Journée européenne de la concurrence sera ouverte par le ministre espagnol, M. Rato. Parmi les intervenants figureront M.
