In 1993, he was one of four international judges to sit on the Tribunal on Violations of Women's Human Rights at the United Nations Conference on Human Rights in Vienna, and in 1994 he served as a member of the panel of experts on the International Tribunal on Rights in Haiti and was subsequently named by President Aristide as the international advisor to Haiti's Truth and Justice Commission.

The Poverty Reduction Strategy rightly identifies weak governance, poor human security, and violation of some human rights as significant challenges to improving the livelihoods of poorest and women, and to stronger economic growth.

Recalls that the human rights of women are an inalienable, integral and indivisible part of universal human rights, and states that the promotion and protection of women's rights are fundamental prerequisites for building a true democracy, and that all possible means should be used to prevent any violations of the human rights of women, including those violations taking place in the Union;

Recalls that the human rights of women are an inalienable, integral and indivisible part of universal human rights and states that promoting and protecting women's rights are fundamental prerequisites for building a true democracy and that all possible means should be used to prevent any violations of the human rights of women, including those violations taking place in the Union, such as genital mutilation, honour killings and forced marriages; calls, therefore, on the Member States and, in a coordinating role, the European Commission to take all necessary steps to punish the perpetrators of such violations and see to it that such violations, even when committed by Union residents outside the Union's territory, are dealt with under the criminal laws of the Member States, including in cases involving forced marriages;

The continued violations of the human rights of women, and the discrimination, in law and in practice, against women and girls, are again noted with concern by the Council.

The continued violations of the human rights of women, and the discrimination, in law and in practice, against women and girls, were also noted with concern by the Council.

10. Considers that the current practice and many regulations in the new Sharia penal codes and Sharia codes of criminal procedure violate many international human rights instruments ratified by Nigeria, including the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, the Convention against Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights;

Anyway, to summarise as quickly as possible, important progress was made in recognising women’s rights as human rights. Very positive political statements were made in terms of rejecting any violations of these human rights, eradicating all practices which violate human rights, referring to the Commission on the Status of Women and the optional protocol and combating racism and violence based on racial grounds.
