Up to now, the Istanbul Convention is the most far-reaching legal instrument on violence against women and has the potential of effectively preventing and combating violence against women in Europe and beyond. Decisive action is needed in terms of signing and ratifying, and - most importantly - implementing the Council of Europe’s Convention on Violence Against Women and Domestic Violence by individual states and by the European Union.
