14. Urges the Commission to swiftly table a proposal for a regulation banning the import into the EU of goods produced using modern forms of slavery, forced labour, especially forced labour of particular vulnerable groups, in violation of basic human rights standards; believes that this regulation should refer to the rights outlined in both the International Convention on the Rights of the Child and the 1998 International Labour Organization declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work; emphasises that such a regulation would have to enable the EU to investigate specific claims when there seems to be sufficient evidence of a violation of these international standards; in the intervening period before such a regulation comes into force calls on the Commission to reinforce checks on imports and monitor the ethical standards in the supply chain in countries who export to the EU;
14. prie instamment la Commission de déposer dans les meilleurs délais une proposition de règlement interdisant l'importation dans l'Union de biens produits par le biais de formes modernes d'esclavage, du travail forcé, notamment du travail forcé de groupes particulièrement vulnérables, en violation des normes fondamentales des droits de l'homme; estime que le présent règlement devrait se référer aux droits énoncés dans la convention internationale des droits de l'enfant ainsi qu'à la déclaration de 1998 de l'Organisation internationale du travail relative aux principes et droits fondamentaux au travail; souligne qu'un tel règlement devrait permettre à l'Union d'enquêter sur des affaires spécifiques dès lors qu'une violation de ces normes internationales semble avérée; demande à la Commission, dans l'attente de l'entrée en vigueur d'un tel règlement, de renforcer les contrôles sur les importations et de contrôler le respect des normes éthiques dans la chaîne d'approvisionnement dans les pays qui exportent vers l'Union;

17. Welcomes the rapid modernisation of the Chinese financial sector; stresses, however, the utmost importance of ensuring a smooth transition so as to avoid any financial instability with possible repercussions across global financial markets; suggests, in particular, that a "race to the bottom" involving harmful regulatory competition between global financial marketplaces should be avoided; suggests, on the contrary, that major regulators worldwide should promote standards of the highest quality; recalls that the EU itself is committed to the global convergence of standards in the areas of accounting (International Financial Reporting Standards), audit (International Standards on Auditing), capital requirements for credit institutions (Basel II), money laundering and the fight against financing terrorism (Financial Action Task Force on Money Laundering (FATF) recommendations) and securities market regulation (International Organization of Securities Commissions standards); points out that the EU would be ready to offer its experience and assistance to the Chinese authorities to implement convergence where necessary;
17. se félicite de la modernisation rapide du secteur financier chinois; souligne toutefois qu'il est extrêmement important d'assurer une transition sans heurts, afin d'éviter toute instabilité financière pouvant avoir des répercussions sur l'ensemble des marchés financiers mondiaux; suggère en particulier que le dumping, impliquant une concurrence réglementaire néfaste entre places financières mondiales, doit être évité; propose que les principaux régulateurs à l'échelle mondiale promeuvent au contraire des normes de la plus haute qualité; rappelle que l'UE elle-même s'est engagée en faveur de la convergence mondiale des normes dans les domaines de la comptabilité (International Financial Reporting Standards), de l'audit (Normes internationales d'audit), des besoins en capitaux, des institutions de crédit (Convention de Bâle II), du blanchiment d'argent et de la lutte contre le financement du terrorisme (recommandations du Groupe d'action financière sur le blanchiment des capitaux – GAFI) et de la réglementation des marchés de valeurs (normes de l'Organisation internationale des commissions de valeurs); souligne que l'UE est prête à offrir, le cas échéant, son expérience et son assistance aux autorités chinoises pour mettre en œuvre la convergence;

Building an internal market for recycling applying high environmental standards would have the advantage of spreading good practice across the whole of the EU and would also assist the recycling industry by allowing it to benefit from the internal market.

In view of the great number of international codes of conduct for companies and labour standards that exist, a common methodology on reporting and for recording compliance with international standards would help to bring the common core aspects of all these standards together and provide an effective way for companies to be screened and also evaluate their own compliance.
