– (DE) Mr President, let me first of all say a word of thanks on behalf of the Group of the European People’s Party and European Democrats to Jean-Luc Dehaene, Richard von Weizsäcker and Lord Simon for this report which is ambitious, courageous and yet, at the same time, realistic.
- (DE) Monsieur le Président, chers collègues, avant tout, le groupe du parti populaire européen et des démocrates européens veut remercier Jean-Luc Dehaene, Richard von Weizsäcker et Lord Simon pour ce rapport ambitieux, courageux et pourtant réaliste et qui est donc aussi tourné vers l'avenir.

At the end of the exchange of views, Mr Jean-Luc Dehaene insisted on the importance of the role of civil society organisations as a relay between the Convention and European citizens. He also appealed to all the organisations to undertake a major effort in terms of informing and explaining the work of the Convention along with what was at stake in order to avoid any misunderstandings.
Au terme de cet échange de vues M. Jean - Luc DEHAENE a insisté sur l'importance du rôle des organisations de la société civile en tant que relais entre la Convention et les citoyens européens et a lancé un appel à la mobilisation de toutes les organisations pour un grand travail d'information et d'explication sur les travaux de la Convention et leurs enjeux afin d'éviter que se créent des malentendus.

The fifth information and discussion meeting between the European Convention and civil society and European network organisations, that took place on 15th November in Brussels, at the invitation and under the auspices of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) provided the opportunity to its new President, Mr Roger Briesch, to welcome Mr Jean-Luc Dehaene, Vice-President of the Convention.

The fifth information and dialogue meeting with European civil society organisations and networks to discuss the work of the European Convention will be held on 15 November at 9.30 a.m. at the EESC building, 2 rue Ravenstein, 1000 Brussels, in the presence of the Convention's vice-chairman, Jean-Luc Dehaene.
La 5ème rencontre d'information et de dialogue sur les travaux de la Convention européenne avec les organisations et réseaux européens de la société civile se tiendra le 15 novembre à 9 heures 30 au siège du CESE, rue Ravenstein, 2 à 1000 Bruxelles, en présence de M. Mr President-in-Office, you – and the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Michel, whom I should like to include in these words of thanks – have acted in the best Belgian tradition, as your predecessors – Leo Tindemans, who will be 80 years old in just a few months' time, Wilfried Martens, the President of the European People's Party, and Jean-Luc Dehaene – also consistently did: with commitment, conviction and in the European spirit.

That is why I think that this appointment, complemented by the appointments of Jean-Luc Dehaene, with whom we as a group have excellent relations, and also Giuliano Amato, who is a proven European, is a very sound one.
