After this debate, it adopted the following conclusions : "THE COUNCIL : WELCOMES the communication from the Commission on priorities for consumer policy; CONSIDERS that legislation adopted to date has contributed to enhancing the protection of the health, safety and the economic interests of consumers and thus to raising the level of consumer protection in the Community; STRESSES that this achievement must be advanced by thorough implementation and enforcement, and, where appropriate, by reviewing existing legislation and by examining where simplification or further legislation might be necessary.

We underline the need to combat gender based discrimination and violations against the rights of women in all forms, thus honouring the Beijing Platform of Action and the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women and We agree to include a gender perspective into policies and programmes, where appropriate, in particular in education and awareness raising, as well as on the need for legislative action.

Nous soulignons la nécessité de lutter contre toute forme de discrimination fondée sur le sexe et de violation des droits de la femme, honorant ainsi le programme d'action de Pékin et la Convention des Nations Unies sur l'élimination de toutes les formes de discrimination à l'égard des femmes, et nous convenons d'inclure la question de l'égalité entre les sexes dans les politiques et les programmes en tant que de besoin, en particulier en matière d'éducation et de sensibilisation, ainsi que d'affirmer la nécessité d'une action législative.
