2. Calls on the Commission to take robust measures against Xylella fastidiosa and other dangerous organisms such as ‘black spot’ in order to prevent the import of infected material into the EU; welcomes the decision taken in April 2015 by the Commission to stop imports of infected coffea plants from Costa Rica and Honduras, and the restrictions adopted in respect of plant imports from affected areas in other third countries; asks for the application, if necessary, of stronger measures, including the authorisation of imports from pest-free production sites only;
2. vraagt de Commissie krachtige maatregelen tegen Xylella fastidiosa en andere gevaarlijke organismen zoals "zwarte vlek" te nemen om de invoer van besmet materiaal in de EU te voorkomen; is verheugd over het besluit van de Commissie van april 2015 om de invoer van besmette koffieplanten uit Costa Rica en Honduras te verbieden, en over de invoerbeperkingen voor planten uit getroffen gebieden in andere derde landen; vraagt dat er zo nodig nog strengere maatregelen worden getroffen, bijvoorbeeld alleen invoer toestaan uit ziektevrije productiegebieden;

Others thought that the operations had been carried out in a rather brutal fashion, without regard for the rights and interests of farmers, and that they entailed significant additional costs (pointless expenditure on the slaughter of healthy animals and on the cleaning and disinfection of non-infected farms; environmental damage caused by the pollution of water and soil at the mass-burial sites and of the air by the pyres; animal-health problems and the socio-psychological damage suffered by the entire farming and rural community).
