– having regard to the EU’s relationship with the African regional and subregional organisations of the Atlantic rim, in particular the African Union (AU), the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC),

To this end, the EU welcomes and stresses the importance of the meeting of the Support and Follow-up Group on Mali scheduled to be held in Bamako on 19 October 2012, at the initiative of the African Union (AU) and in consultation with the United Nations (UN) and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
In dit verband neemt de EU er met instemming kennis van dat, op initiatief van de Afrikaanse Unie (AU) en in overleg met de Organisatie van de Verenigde Naties en de Ecowas, op 19 oktober 2012 in Bamako de ondersteunings- en follow-up-groep zal bijeenkomen, en wijst zij op het belang hiervan.

It recognises the unity of purpose demonstrated by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) and the African Union (AU).

Through these efforts, the Member States and Frontex will help to reduce, as far as possible, the disappearance at sea of those who to reach Europe in makeshift vessels. As a result, the Commission welcomes the bilateral agreement between Spain and the West African states, as well as the contacts between Italy and Malta and Libya.
Hierdoor kunnen de lidstaten en Frontex voor zover mogelijk bijdragen aan vermindering van de verdwijningen op zee van personen die Europa willen bereiken in geïmproviseerde bootjes. The resolution envisages joint and better coordinated action by international organisations and UN member states to counter illicit drug trafficking and the transportation of cocaine through these countries, and it pledges help and support to the governments of states in West Africa, the African Union and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in their introduction and implementation of measures to stem the illicit trade in cocaine.
De resolutie beoogt een gezamenlijke en beter gecoördineerde actie van de internationale organisaties en de lidstaten van de VN om de onwettige drugshandel en het cocaïnevervoer door deze landen te verhinderen. In de resolutie wordt eveneens de hulp en de steun gevraagd van de regeringsleiders van de West-Afrikaanse staten, de Afrikaanse Unie en de Economische Gemeenschap van West-Afrikaanse Staten (ECOWAS) bij het introduceren en implementeren van maatregelen om de onwettige cocaïnehandel te bestrijden.

Under the EPAs ACP countries have been asked to liberalize their markets and enter new reciprocal regional trading systems with the EU. For the purposes of the negotiations and the new trading system, Africa has been divided into four regional groups – based on, but not totally respecting, the existing regional organisations of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC), the Southern African Development Community (SADC), and Eastern and Southern Africa (ESA) – whilst the Caribbean and Pacific represent one regional group each.
Volgens de EPO's moeten de ACS-landen hun markten liberaliseren en deel gaan uitmaken van nieuwe, bilaterale en regionale handelsstelsels met de EU. Together with its international partners, in particular the United Nations, the United Nations Mission in Liberia, the United States of America, the Economic Community of West African States and the African Union, the European Union is committed to making a considerable effort to this end.

6. In implementing such policies, the EU will cooperate closely with the United Nations, G8, NEPAD, the African Union, the Economic Community of West African States, the international financial institutions and other interested parties".

The EU welcomes the ongoing deployment of human rights observers from the United Nations, the African Union (AU) and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), and repeats that it is willing to provide them with support.
Het verheugt de EU dat er mensenrechtenwaarnemers worden ingezet van de Verenigde Naties, de Afrikaanse Unie (AU) en de Economische Gemeenschap van West-Afrikaanse Staten (Ecowas) en de EU verklaart zich nogmaals bereid deze waarnemers te steunen.
