Some of the reasons for the failure to register new-born babies are the relatively high cost, ignorance of the procedure, distance from towns in which registry offices are located or even lack of information as to the importance of acquiring a birth certificate. Official registration of children’s births is a fundamental instrument of supervision and prevention of uncontrolled child labour and of all forms of exploitation.
