I had meetings with several regional associations and institutions while preparing this report, especially the Committee of the Regions, the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions, the Assembly of European Regions, the European Regions Research and Innovation Network, the European Economic and Social Committee and the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Regional Policy and its Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities.

On 5 and 6 May 2003, around 500 representatives from towns and regions in 25 present and future EU Member States, including delegates from the Assembly of European Regions, the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions of Europe, Eurocities and other associations of European regions, officials from other EU institutions, including the Commissioner for Regional Policy, Michel Barnier, and journalists from all over Europe, will gather in Leipzig (Germany), to attend a conference/debate on the future of cohesion policy, organised by the Committee of the Regions and the Leipzig city council.
