The conference was organised by the Presidency in coordination with the Commission and brought together major European and worldwide stakeholders from the fields of agriculture, food, forestry, aquaculture, rural development, consumer science, economics, etc.

The European biotechnology industry and bioresearch community need to become part of the European solution to the problems posed by biological risks.[10] It is understood that activities in the field of life sciences and biotechnology are extremely diverse in their scope,[11] and not all applications represent a threat in the context of bio-preparedness.
