The Union has negotiated a new Protocol with the Islamic Republic of Mauritania (‘the new Protocol’) granting EU vessels fishing opportunities in waters in which Mauritania exercises its sovereignty or its jurisdiction as regards fishing.

On 30 November 2006, the Council adopted Regulation (EC) No 1801/2006 on the conclusion of the Fisheries Partnership Agreement between the European Community and the Islamic Republic of Mauritania (1) (‘the Partnership Agreement’).
Op 30 november 2006 heeft de Raad Verordening (EG) nr. 1801/2006 betreffende de sluiting van de Partnerschapsovereenkomst inzake visserij tussen de Europese Gemeenschap en de Islamitische Republiek Mauritanië (1) („de partnerschapsovereenkomst”) goedgekeurd.

The Protocol setting out the fishing opportunities and financial contribution provided for in the Fisheries Partnership Agreement between the European Union and the Islamic Republic of Mauritania for a period of two years (‘the Protocol’) (3) is hereby approved on behalf of the Union.

The Council adopted a decision on the signing on behalf of the EU, and on the provisional application of the protocol setting out fishing opportunities and the financial contribution provided for in the fisheries partnership agreement (FPA) between the EU and the Islamic Republic of Mauritania (14282/12).

The Council was briefed by Commissioner Joe Borg on the ongoing discussions with Mauritania on the existing Protocol setting out the fishing opportunities and financial contribution provided for in the Fisheries Partnership Agreement between the European Community and the Islamic Republic of Mauritania .

The Council adopted a Regulation concerning the conclusion of the Agreement in the form of an exchange of letters amending the Agreement on cooperation in the sea fisheries sector between the European Community and the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.

The Council adopted a Decision on the conclusion of an Agreement in the form of an exchange of letters concerning the provisional application of the Agreement on cooperation in the sea fisheries sector between the European Community and the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, initialled in Brussels on 20 June 1996.
