Calls on the Council and the Commission to promote the existing Draft Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production, Stockpiling, Transfer and Use of Uranium Weapons and on their Destruction, and to present this convention to the UN member countries to be signed and ratified; calls on all the EU Member States and the UN member countries to impose a moratorium on the use of depleted uranium weapons until such time as a global ban on these weapons has been agreed;
verzoekt de Raad en de Commissie het bestaande ontwerpverdrag inzake het verbod op ontwikkeling, productie, opslag, overdracht en gebruik van uraniumwapens en de vernietiging ervan te bevorderen en dit verdrag ter ondertekening en ratificatie aan de VN-lidstaten voor te leggen; verzoekt alle EU- en VN- lidstaten om een moratorium in te stellen op het gebruik van wapens met verarmd uranium totdat een wereldwijd verbod op deze wapens is overeengekomen;

Requests the Member States - in order to play their leadership role in full - to immediately implement a moratorium on the further use of cluster ammunition and depleted uranium ammunition (and other uranium warheads), pending the conclusions of a comprehensive study of the requirements of international humanitarian law;

Calls on the Council to support independent and thorough investigations into the possible harmful effects of the use of depleted uranium ammunition (and other types of uranium warheads) in military operations in areas such as the Balkans, Afghanistan and other regions; stresses that such investigations should include consideration of the effects on military personnel serving in affected areas and the effects on civilians and their land; calls for the results of these investigations to be presented to Parliament;
