I have two comments to make. Sociopolitical matters are within the competence of the Member States. We at European level may only make recommendations. Europe is in a state of imbalance because there has been economic but not social harmonisation. Europe has not become more just since Lisbon 2000. On the contrary, poverty is increasing. To truly combat poverty and make it possible for all EU citizens to live with dignity and justice, we need not only economic, market and competition aspects but also a social, just, ecological internal market for all people.
Twee opmerkingen:de competenties voor het sociaal beleid liggen bij de lidstaten.Op Europees niveau mogen wij alleen maar aanbevelingen doen.Europa verkeert derhalve in een scheve situatie, omdat de economie geharmoniseerd is, maar de sociale belangen niet.Sinds Lissabon 2000 is Europa niet rechtvaardiger geworden – integendeel:de armoede neemt toe.Om de armoede werkelijk te bestrijden en voor alle EU-burgers een leven in waardigheid en met rechtvaardigheid mogelijk te maken, hebben wij niet alleen economie en concurrentie nodig, maar ook een sociale, rechtvaardige, ecologische interne markt voor iedereen.

In my opinion, this project must be carried out with the emphasis placed both on its internal dimension – the internal market and economic and monetary union – in line with the Lisbon process, and its external image, so that the Union may carry weight on the international stage in line with its economic, financial, commercial and industrial weight.
Volgens mij moet bij de ontwikkeling van dit project het accent worden gelegd op zowel de interne dimensie – de interne markt en de economische en monetaire unie – conform het proces van Lissabon, als de externe dimensie, zodanig dat de Unie op het internationale toneel een rol speelt die overeenkomt met haar economische, commerciële en industriële gewicht.
