Across the whole of the European Union, more than 80% of bathing water locations already meet the stricter standards and in a number of Member States, even more than 90% of the swimming locations comply with them. At present, some 12% of bathers annually suffer from nausea, from stomach infections, rashes, tightness of the chest or eye or ear infections.
In de hele Europese Unie voldoet momenteel al meer dan 80 procent van de zwemwaterlocaties aan de strengere normen en in een aantal lidstaten voldoet zelfs al meer dan 90 procent van de zwemlocaties hieraan. Op dit moment krijgt jaarlijks nog zo'n 12 procent van de zwemmers last van misselijkheid, buikgriep, huiduitslag, benauwdheid of een oog- of oorontsteking.
