1. Grants for the functioning of consumer organisations at Union level may be awarded to European consumer organisations which comply with all of the following conditions:

This is why the Commission grants financial support to consumer and environmental organisations, as well as to trade unions and SMEs. As far as consumer representation is concerned, the Commission contributes financially to the functioning of European consumer organisations which represent consumer interests in the development of standards for products and services at Community level[33].
