En 1986, la première Union Professionnelle, la Société Belge d’Ostéopathie (SBO) est créée, résultat de la fusion de deux associations pionnières : la Société Belge d’Ostéopathie et de Recherche en Thérapie Manuelle (SBO-RTM) et l’Association Belge d’Ostéopathie (ABO).
In 1986 wordt de eerste beroepsvereniging, de Belgische Vereniging voor Osteopathie (BVO) opgericht, als fusie van de eerder gevormde Sociéte Belge d’Osteopathie et de Recherche en Thérapie Manuelle (SBORTM) en de Association Belge d’Ostéopathie (ABO).

Selon l'article 3 de ses statuts, la société admettra comme membres effectifs " les titulaires d'un diplôme en ostéopathie reconnu par l'" Académie belge d'ostéopathie ASBL" qui pratiquent l'ostéopathie conformément aux conditions définies dans le règlement d'ordre intérieur" .
Overeenkomstig artikel 3 van haar statuten, laat de vereniging als daadwerkelijke leden toe " de houders van een door de Belgische Vereniging voor Osteopathie V. Z.W. erkend diploma, die de osteopathie beoefenen overeenkomstig de in het reglement van orde omschreven voorwaarden" .
