De studie “Identifying Older People at Risk Abuse During Routine Screening Practices” over het gebruik van het RAI toont aan dat potentieel misbruik kan geassocieerd worden met een gebrekkig sociaal netwerk en een beperkt sociaal functioneren, naast specifieke, bijkomende karakteristieken van de oudere.
L'étude « Identifying Older People at Risk Abuse During Routine Screening Practices », qui porte sur l'utilisation du,RAI, démontre que le risque d'abus peut être associé à un réseau social déficient et un fonctionnement social limité, en plus de caractéristiques propres à la personne âgée.

In 2010 zijn twee thematische conferenties over deze onderwerpen gehouden: "Promotion of Mental Health and Well-being in Older People" (Madrid, 28 en 29 juni 2010) en "Combating Stigma and Social Exclusion" (Lissabon, 8 en 9 november 2010), met de Commissie en de lidstaten als medesponsors.

Therefore, it is vital that we policymakers should be kept aware of the issue and the concerns of older people – especially women – in order to ensure that they are not marginalised.
Par conséquent, il est crucial qu’en tant que décideurs politiques nous soyons informés du problème et des préoccupations des personnes âgées, en particulier des femmes, afin d’empêcher leur marginalisation.
