2. In de resolutie van de VN-top voor de goedkeuring van de post-2015 Ontwikkelingsagenda wordt vermeld dat het noodzakelijk is "to protect humant rights and promote gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls".

De grondwetten van Brazilië (artikel 5, I : Men and women have equal rights and duties under the terms of this constitution) en Griekenland (artikel 4, 2 : Greek men and Greek women have equal rights and obligations) voorzien eveneens in een specifiek gelijkheidsbeginsel voor vrouwen en mannen.
