Yesterday, the Standing Committee of Food Chain and Animal Health (SCoFCAH) concluded a two-day meeting in Brussels during which four main topics were discussed in particular: West Nile virus infection in the European Union, co-financing of the eradication of rabies in Italy, poultry meat transit to and from Russia and animal welfare inspections in the laying hen sector.
Hier s'est achevée à Bruxelles une réunion de deux jours du Comité permanent de la chaîne alimentaire et de la santé animale principalement consacrée à l'infection par le virus du Nil occidental dans l'Union européenne, au cofinancement de l'éradication de la rage en Italie, au transit de la viande de volaille en direction et en provenance de la Russie, ainsi qu'aux inspections concerant le bien-être des animaux dans le secteur des poules pondeuses.

(H) Finally, as regarding comitology, nothing must be done to undermine the role of the Standing Committee on Propagating Material and Plants of Fruit Genera and Species, because its contribution so far has been shown to be very constructive in addressing the specific features of this sector.

The present version of paragraph 4(a) of Protocol 1 also provides for such information to be communicated directly to the EFTA Standing Committee; - amending Protocol 21 on the implementation of competition rules applicable to undertakings by adding Regulation No 2410/92 of 23 July 1992 amending Regulation No 3957/87 laying down the procedure for the application of the rules on competition to undertakings in the air transport sectors to the list of acts in Article 3(1) of this Protocol; - amending Protocol 30 on specific provisions on the organization of co- operation in the field of statistics by ensuring the participation of the EFTA countries in the Community's new framework statistical programme (1993-1997) set up by Decision 93/464/EEC of 22 July 1993.

The landmarks of this participation have been consultation within the cross-industry and sectoral advisory committees, moves towards joint action through the setting-up of the Standing Committee on Employment and, from 1985 onwards, the commitment of the social partners to an approach based on dialogue and negotiation via the Val Duchasse social dialogue.

Consideration will be given to giving it a new role so that it would become a Standing Committee on Employment and Social Policy, and - the number, mandate, coverage and composition of the sectoral social dialogue committees.
