Today's multi-annual plan is the fourth proposal adopted in line with the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP), after the Baltic Sea, North Sea and Adriatic Sea.

Building on a collaborative process with international partners in 2018, the European Union and Germany will organise the first meeting in 2019. €1.5 million to analyse ecosystems and economic activity on the mid-Atlantic Ridge and the Rio Grande Rise, in order to support the definition of a coherent set of Areas of Particular Environmental Interest. Its intention to support the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean in establishing a Fishing Restricted Area (FRA) of at least 2,700 km² to protect demersal stocks in the habitat recognised as essential nursery and spawning ground for a number of marine species outside territorial waters of Italy and Croatia of the Jabuka/Pomo Pit area of the Adriatic Sea.

The Cohesion Fund has begun a thorough evaluation of the project to supply water to Rhodes and neighbouring islands as part of the environmental master plan for the Dodecanese.

(i) Discard Plan for Demersal Fisheries in the Adriatic Sea (GSAs 17 and 18) — Joint Recommendation by the Adriatica High-Level Group (Croatia, Italia and Slovenia); (ii) Discard Plan for Demersal Fisheries in the South-Eastern Mediterranean Sea (GSAs 15, 16, 19, 20, 22, 23 and 25) — Joint Recommendation by the Sudestmed High-Level Group (Cyprus, Greece, Italy and Malta); and (iii) Discard Plan for Demersal Fisheries in the Western Mediterranean Sea (GSAs 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11) — Joint Recommendation by the Pescamed High-Level Group (France, Italy and Spain).

On 4 and 7 July 2016 those Member States have submitted three joint recommendations to the Commission concerning discard plans for demersal fisheries in the Adriatic Sea, the south-eastern Mediterranean Sea and the western Mediterranean Sea, respectively , after consultation of the Mediterranean Sea Advisory Council.
Les 4 et 7 juillet 2016, ces États membres ont présenté trois recommandations communes à la Commission concernant les plans de rejets pour les pêcheries démersales respectivement dans la mer Adriatique, la Méditerranée du Sud-Est et la Méditerranée occidentale, après consultation du conseil consultatif pour la mer Méditerranée.

32. Calls on the Commission to propose that specific advisory bodies for the Adriatic Sea and the Ionian Sea should be set up within the Regional Advisory Council (RAC) already established for the Mediterranean area, drawing on the positive experience gained with the ‘maritime districts’ that have been set up in Italian waters (such as the Northern Adriatic fisheries district, established in 2012 for the shared and concerted management of the northern Adriatic fisheries sector from a political, economic, social and environmental point of view);
32. invite la Commission à proposer la création, au sein du Conseil consultatif régional déjà existant pour la Méditerranée, d'organes consultatifs spécifiques, tant pour la mer Adriatique que pour la mer Ionienne, sur la base des expériences positives acquises avec les "districts maritimes" institués dans les eaux italiennes , (comme par exemple, le district de pêche du nord de l'Adriatique créé en 2012 en vue d'une gestion partagée et concertée du secteur de la pêche du nord de l'Adriatique au niveau politique, économique, social et environnemental);

6. Believes further that maritime spatial planning – as the public process for analysing and planning the spatial and temporal distribution of human activities in the Adriatic and Ionian Sea areas, in particular in the north of the Adriatic Sea – is vital for the sustainable future of the fishing sector in relation to other related activities;

22. Urges the Commission to adopt, at the earliest opportunity and by 2013 at the latest, the action plan for the practical implementation on a macro-regional basis of the maritime strategy for the Adriatic Sea and the Ionian Sea, pointing out that the fisheries sector should form one of the priorities of that strategy, taking account of the specific geo-physical features and linking this plan of action to regional policy, the Union’s integrated maritime policy and the Connecting Europe Facility, so as to maximise its leverage effect;
22. invite instamment la Commission à adopter dans les meilleurs délais et au plus tard en 2013 le plan d'action pour la mise en œuvre concrète, sur une base macro-régionale, de la stratégie maritime pour la mer Adriatique et la mer Ionienne en précisant que le secteur de la pêche devrait constituer l'une des priorités de cette stratégie, en tenant compte des configurations géophysiques spécifiques et en reliant ce plan d'action à la politique régionale, à la politique maritime intégrée de l'Union, et au Mécanisme pour l'interconnexion en Europe, afin de maximiser son effet-levier;
