– (PT) In the wake of other initiatives, we proposed to the Committee on International Trade of the European Parliament that an oral question should be raised with a debate in plenary on production and employment in the textile and clothing sector in different Member States of the European Union, because we consider this urgent and indispensable.

Just recently, on February 6, 2007, the Standing Committee on Industry, Natural Resources, Science and Technology tabled its report on the future of the manufacturing sector. The committee indicated that textile and clothing industries were on the verge of collapse and called on the government to abandon its laissez-faire policy.
Encore récemment, le 6 février 2007, le Comité permanent de l'industrie, des sciences et de la technologie déposait son rapport sur l'avenir du secteur manufacturier, dans lequel il constatait l'effondrement des industries du textile et du vêtement, et demandait au gouvernement d'abandonner sa politique du laisser-faire.

Since then, a number of problems experienced by businesses in various sectors (textiles,clothing, bicycles, etc) have underscored the importance of the Committee undertaking thisstudy as quickly as possible.
Depuis ce temps, des situations aberrantes vécues par les entreprises dans différents secteurs (textile, vêtement, bicyclette, etc) confirment l'importance que le comité mène cette enquête dans les meilleurs délais.
