With a view to avoiding conflicts of interest it is important that the statutory auditor or the audit firm, before accepting or continuing an engagement for a statutory audit of a public-interest entity, assess whether the independence requirements are met, and in particular whether any threats to independence arise as a result of the relationship with that entity.
Afin d'éviter les conflits d'intérêts, il est important que le contrôleur légal des comptes ou le cabinet d'audit, avant d'accepter ou de poursuivre une mission de contrôle légal des comptes d'une entité d'intérêt public, vérifie si les obligations en matière d'indépendance sont remplies, et notamment s'il n'existe pas de risque pesant sur son indépendance découlant de ses relations avec l'entité en question.

26. Expresses its concern at the fact that the UN Integrated Regional Information Network report on the role of economic operators in developing countries in conflict-stricken regions, published on 12 April 2001, uncovered evidence of a link between the economic interests based primarily on the illegal exploitation of a region's natural resources and the continuation of armed conflicts in that region; would like to see a follow-up study conducted, focusing mainly on the activities of European undertakings in these regions, and asks that the findings thereof be made public;

Whilst the criteria for evaluation and selection of Development Partnerships may be established by the Monitoring Committees, Monitoring Committee members representing organisations participating in a Development Partnership should not be implicated in the selection process in order to avoid any conflict of interest.
