IN-CONTEXT TRANSLATIONS

Decision No. 1346/2001/EC[9], amending the guidelines adopted in 1996 as regards seaports, inland ports and intermodal terminals, as well as project No. 8 in Annex III, was adopted by the European Parliament and the Council on 22 May 2001. The Decision states that interconnection points, including seaports, inland ports and intermodal terminals, are a pre-condition for the integration of the different transport modes in a multimodal network.

This kind of network approach would also allow more systematic incorporation of the nodes (which are often the main source of congestion and other inefficiencies), ports and airports as the network's entry points and the main inter-modal connection points that underpin strong network integration.
