Mr. Joe Jordan (Leeds—Grenville, Lib.): Mr. Speaker, recently the eastern Ontario wardens caucus released a report entitled “Future Directions” in which they created a blueprint regarding how they would like to see government at the provincial level interact with the municipalities in their region.

As regards territorial organisation, in February 2002 Slovakia adopted, in agreement with the Commission, the provisional NUTS (Nomenclature of Territorial Statistical Units) classification: the Bratislava region, Western Slovakia, Central Slovakia and Eastern Slovakia correspond to NUTS II level. In February and in June 2002, the government adopted several decisions to designate the managing and paying authorities responsible for implementing the Structural Funds and the Cohesion Fund.

I am asking in my motion for the two levels of government, the federal level and the provincial level, to get together to make the infrastructure program fit the needs of eastern Ontario and the capital region, the capital region of Canada being the fourth largest metropolitan area in Canada, by constructing a four-lane highway in order to ensure road safety and enhance travel in and out of the nation's capital.
Dans ma motion, je demande aux deux ordres de gouvernement, soit le fédéral et le provincial, de s'entendre pour que le programme d'infrastructure réponde aux besoins de l'est ontarien et de la région de la capitale nationale. Celle-ci est la quatrième plus grande agglomération au Canada.
