The Directive will extend to these ships the safety standards contained in the Convention on Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) and the harmonized interpretations of these standards, established by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), and also the standards on construction and maintenance of hull, machinery and plants specified by a recognized classification organization.
