Under the MEDA Programme for co-operation with southern Mediterranean countries, a Regional Forum was organised on "The Role of Women in Economic Development : the equality dimension between men and women in the Euro-Mediterranean partnership"which was held in Brussels in July 2001.
Dans le cadre du programme MEDA de coopération avec les pays du sud de la Méditerranée, un forum régional intitulé "Le rôle des femmes dans le développement économique: la question de l'égalité entre les hommes et les femmes dans le partenariat euro-méditerranéen" a été organisé à Bruxelles en juillet 2001.

On this matter, a seminar scheduled to be held in Marseille in June 2005 will aim to bring together the various instruments and should discuss prevention in the Mediterranean and the Atlantic, operational organisation in collaboration with other forums such as the 5+5 or the Euro-Mediterranean forum, a specific assistance plan for the Mediterranean and a warning centre.
À cet égard, un séminaire, prévu à Marseille en juin 2005, aura pour but de fédérer les différents dispositifs et devrait se pencher sur la prévention en Méditerranée et dans l’Atlantique, l’organisation opérationnelle en liaison avec d’autres fora tels que le 5+5 ou le Forum euro-méditerranéen, un plan spécifique d’assistance pour la Méditerranée et un centre d’alerte.

32. Confirms its willingness to develop further the Euro-Mediterranean partnership and the EU common strategy on the Mediterranean, notably through the Euro-Mediterranean Parliamentary Forum, including the Euro-Mediterranean Forum of Women Parliamentarians; desires to work together with the Commission and the Member States to improve the implementation of the MEDA programme and to enhance the utilisation of appropriations, taking account of the specific factors which distinguish it from other external programmes;
32. réaffirme qu'il est disposé à développer encore le partenariat euro-méditerranéen et la stratégie commune de l'Union européenne à l'égard de l'espace méditerranéen, notamment via le Forum parlementaire euro-méditerranéen, y inclus le Forum euro-méditerranéen des Femmes parlementaires; souhaite coopérer avec la Commission et les États membres pour améliorer la mise en œuvre du programme MEDA, et l'utilisation des crédits, compte tenu des facteurs spécifiques qui distinguent ce programme d'autres programmes extérieurs;

In the elaboration of the Regional Indicative Programme (RIP) for 2005-6 the Commission will give full consideration to the ways in which to include support for the strengthening of Human Rights and democracy as well as the involvement of civil society. In addition, the Commission will prepare an evaluation of the impact of the various meetings of the Civil Forum which have taken place prior to Euro-Mediterranean meetings of Foreign Ministers; in that context it will consider ways in which the Civil Forum could develop a structure such that the outcomes of its meetings have a more operational impact on the activities of the partnership and the involvement of civil society in them.
Lors de l'élaboration du programme indicatif régional (PIR) pour la période 2005-2006, la Commission étudiera de très près les moyens d'y intégrer un soutien en faveur du renforcement des droits de l'homme et de la démocratie ainsi que de la participation de la société civile. la Commission préparera en outre une évaluation de l'impact des différentes réunions du Forum civil tenues préalablement aux réunions des ministres euro-méditerranéens des Affaires étrangères; elle étudiera, dans ce contexte, la façon dont le Forum civil pourrait se structurer, afin que les conclusions de ses réunions puissent avoir un plus grand impact opérationnel sur les activités du partenariat et l'association de la société civile à ces activités.

The issues have been addressed in all the meetings of the Civil Forum (bringing together NGOs and other representatives of civil society from the EU and the Mediterranean partners) which have preceded the Euro-Mediterranean Foreign Ministers' Meetings.
La problématique a été abordée dans toutes les réunions du Forum de la société civile (rassemblant des ONG et d'autres représentants de la société civile de l'UE et des partenaires méditerranéens) qui ont précédé les réunions des ministres euro-méditerranéens des Affaires étrangères.

1. The Community shall implement measures in the framework of the principles and priorities of the Euro-Mediterranean partnership to support the efforts that Mediterranean non-member countries and territories listed in Annex I (hereinafter referred to as 'Mediterranean partners') will undertake to reform their economic and social structures, improve conditions for the underprivileged and mitigate any social or environmental consequences which may result from economic development".

La Communauté met en oeuvre, dans le respect des principes et des priorités du partenariat euro-méditerranéen, des mesures visant à soutenir les efforts qu'entreprennent les territoires et les pays méditerranéens visés à l'annexe I (ci-après dénommés 'partenaires méditerranéens') pour réformer leurs structures économiques et sociales, améliorer les conditions de vie des catégories défavorisées et atténuer les conséquences qui peuvent résulter du développement économique sur les plans social et de l'environnement".
