For some years now there has been a dispute within NAFO between the Community and Canada, in its position as a coastal state in the North- West Atlantic, over the basic approach to be adopted in defining a fishery resources conservation policy. The 12th annual meeting of NAFO held in Halifax from 10 to 14 September 1990, represents a major step forward (cf. the table in the Annex).
