The EC approach at bilateral level is complemented by the principle and objectives set by the so called San José Dialogue between the EU and six Central America countries, which succeeded in contributing to the peace process and democratisation of the region, and was consequently re-oriented towards new challenges related to sustainable and equitable economic and social development, and to the deepening of economic linkages between the two regions.
