TRADUCTIONS EN CONTEXTE

1. Welcomes the Commission communication and the initial results of the work begun by the High-Level Working Party on Social Protection and the Economic Policy Committee following the request by the Lisbon European Council to examine the future evolution of social protection; welcomes the transformation of the High-Level Working Party on Social Protection to the Committee on Social Protection and the legal basis for this change provided for in the Treaty of Nice;

The Commission and the High-Level Working Party on Social Protection are calling for new regulations to push back the current retirement age.

At its meeting in Lisbon on 23-24 March 2000, the European Council decided to "mandate the High Level Working Party on Social Protection, taking into consideration the work being done by the Economic Policy Committee, (...)as its first priority, to prepare, on the basis of a Commission communication, a study on the future evolution of social protection from a long-term point of view, giving particular attention to the sustainability of pensions systems in different time frameworks up to 2020 and beyond, where necessary".
Lors de sa réunion à Lisbonne les 23-24 mars 2000, le Conseil européen a décidé de "charger le groupe à haut niveau sur la protection sociale, compte tenu des travaux effectués au sein du comité de politique économique, (...) en priorité, de préparer sur la base d'une communication de la Commission une étude sur l'évolution future de la protection sociale dans une perspective à long terme, en accordant une attention particulière à la viabilité des régimes de retraite à différentes échéances jusqu'en 2020 et au-delà, si nécessaire".

The Commission proposes that the presentation of the challenges and policy responses discussed in this Communication should be used by the High Level Working Party on Social Protection as a framework for its ongoing work of analysis and exchange on pension reform issues.
La Commission propose que l'exposé des défis et des réponses politiques discutées dans la présente communication constitue pour le groupe à haut niveau sur la protection sociale un cadre pour la poursuite de ses travaux d'analyse et d'échange en cours sur les questions de la réforme des pensions.

The High Level Working Party on Social Protection will submit a progress report on its work to the Nice Summit of December 2000.

In its progress report to the Feira European Council, the High Level Working Party on Social Protection suggested that an analysis of pension reform strategies should also consider how to manage finance and expenditure.
