− The next item is the report (A6-0496/2007) by Mrs Corbey, on behalf of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety, on the proposal for a directive of the European Parliament and of the Council amending Directive 98/70/EC as regards the specification of petrol, diesel and gas-oil and introducing a mechanism to monitor and reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the use of road transport fuels and amending Council Directive 1999/32/EC, as regards the specification of fuel used by inland waterway vessels and repealing Directive 93/12/EEC (COM(2007)0018 - C6-0061/2007 - 2007/0019(COD)).
− L’ordre du jour appelle le rapport (A6-0496/2007) de M Corbey, au nom de la commission de l’environnement, de la santé publique et de la sécurité alimentaire, sur la proposition de directive du Parlement européen et du Conseil modifiant la directive 98/70/CE en ce qui concerne les spécifications relatives à l’essence, au carburant diesel et aux gazoles ainsi que l’introduction d’un mécanisme permettant de surveiller et de réduire les émissions de gaz à effet de serre provenant des carburants utilisés dans le transport routier, modifiant la directive 1999/32/CE du Conseil en ce qui concerne les spécifications relatives aux carburants utilisés par les bateaux de navigation intérieure et abrogeant la directive 93/12/CEE (COM(2007)0018 - C6-0061/2007 - 2007/0019(COD)).

The result of the committee vote was excellent as it highlighted the progress made in controlling the capture of carbon dioxide, in improving energy efficiency in the generation of electricity, in the contribution which synthetic fuels for transport can make, and in the competitiveness of the nuclear sector.
Le résultat du vote en commission était excellent dans la mesure où il soulignait les progrès réalisés dans le contrôle de la capture du dioxyde de carbone, dans l’amélioration de l’efficience énergétique pour la production d’électricité, dans l’éventuelle contribution des carburants synthétiques au transport et dans la compétitivité du secteur du nucléaire.

I must add that, on 20 December, the College of Commissioners adopted a Regulation prohibiting the transport of heavy fuel by single-hull oil tankers, to or from European Union ports, and according to which, the replacement of single hull ships with double hull ships is speeded up, a proposal which furthermore has been agreed in the Council and examined at first reading by the European Parliament’s Committee on Regional Policy, Transport and Tourism and which therefore should enter into force next June, if the agreements within the Council are maintained.
Il faut ajouter que le 20 décembre dernier, le collège des commissaires a adopté un règlement qui interdit le transport de fioul lourd par des pétroliers à simple coque à destination ou au départ de ports de l’Union européenne et qui accélère le remplacement des bateaux à simple coque par des bateaux à double coque, proposition qui a été acceptée par le Conseil et qui a été étudiée en première lecture par la commission de la politique régionale, des transports et du tourisme du Parlement européen et qui, par conséquent, devrait entrer en vigueur à partir du mois de juin prochain, si les accords du Conseil sont maintenus.
