The announcement comes ahead of a pledging conference to close the current funding gap of €615 million to complete the Shelter Implementation Plan – the umbrella programme of the New Safe Confinement. Calls on the Council and the Commission to contribute to the commitments of the international donors' conference held in Stockholm on 31 August 2006, given that rapid and effective international aid for the reconstruction work will contribute to a further strengthening of the democratic institutions and to preventing an increase in the influence of fundamentalist forces in Lebanon;
