As a follow-up to the last year’s Human Rights Dialogue, the Armenian delegation informed about the human rights situation in Armenia, in particular regarding the national human rights legislation and its enforcement, the functioning of the judicial system, the freedom of association and assembly, the freedom of expression and the media, elections and electoral framework, the freedom of thought and religion, the rights of prisoners, including fight against torture and cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment and the cooperation between Armenia and EU in international fora, particularly within the United Nations, OSCE, and Council of Europe for the promotion of human rights.
Dans le prolongement de la réunion de l'année précédente, la délégation arménienne a communiqué des informations sur la situation des droits de l'homme en Arménie, plus particulièrement sur la législation nationale en matière de droits de l'homme et sa mise en œuvre, le fonctionnement du système judiciaire, la liberté d'association et de réunion, la liberté d'expression et des médias, les élections et le cadre électoral, la liberté de pensée et de religion, les droits des prisonniers, notamment au regard de la lutte contre la torture et les traitements cruels, inhumains et dégradants, et la coopération entre l'Arménie et l'UE dans les enceintes internationales, notamment les Nations unies, l'OSCE et le Conseil de l'Europe, pour la promotion des droits de l'homme.

The grant of a pardon to Mr Al-Maleh and other human rights defenders who were not given the right to a proper trial would testify to a change of course in the policy of the authorities and a move towards upholding international standards of human rights and the principles of a fair trial. In addition, the signing of an association agreement between the European Union and Syria, the fundamental feature of which is respect for human rights, was postponed at Syria’s request in October 2009.

The project leader is the International Federation of Human Rights Leagues (FIDH), based in Paris, which will implement the project with various partners in the region, such as the Egyptian Organization for Human Rights, the Palestinian Center for Human Rights, the Palestinian Society for the Protection of Human Rights and Environment, the Jordanian Society for Human Rights, the Lebanese Association for Human Rights, the Foundation for Human and Humanitarian Rights in Lebanon, the Moroccan Association for Human Rights, the Moroccan Organization for Human Rights and the Tunisian League for Human Rights.
