Warmly welcomes the definitive closure of the Chornobyl nuclear power plant and supports the granting of the Euratom 'K2R4' loan as part of the implementation of the 1995 Memorandum; calls for regular reporting on the decommissioning of the Chornobyl site and the repairs of the Shelter of Reactor IV; asks the Commission to present a report on the health conditions in the areas, especially in Belarus, that were contaminated in 1986; asks the Commission to support the Ukraine in addressing the issue of mass unemployment and other social problems in the Chornobyl region;

In line with the 1995 G7-Ukraine memorandum on the closure of Chernobyl the Commission will also pursue its policy of ensuring that the K2R4 reactors are completed to an internationally acceptable safety level, and is considering a Euratom loan for these reactors to complement financing from the EBRD and from bilateral export credit agencies.
Conformément au Memorandum G7 Ukraine de 1995 sur la fermeture de Tchernobyl , la Commission continuera également à garantir l'achèvement des réacteurs K2R4 en conformité avec les normes de sûreté internationales et envisage un prêt Euratom pour ces réacteurs, afin de compléter le financement de la BERD et d'autres organismes bilatéraux de crédit à l'exportation.
