– having regard to UN Human Rights Council resolution S-22/1 of 1 September 2014 on the human rights situation in Iraq in the light of abuses committed by the so-called Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant and associated groups,

A. whereas on 10 January 2014 the UNSC condemned the attacks being perpetrated by the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) against the people of Iraq in an attempt to destabilise the country and the region, and recognised that Iraqi security forces, local police and tribes in Anbar province are showing great courage as they fight to defeat the ISIL in their cities;
A. considérant que, le 10 janvier 2014, le Conseil de sécurité des Nations unies a condamné les attentats perpétrés par l'État islamique en Iraq et au Levant (EIIL) contre la population iraquienne dans une tentative de déstabilisation du pays et de la région, et a reconnu le grand courage dont faisaient preuve les forces de sécurité iraquiennes, la police locale et les tribus de la province d'Anbar dans leur combat pour défaire l'EIIL dans leur ville;

F. whereas the ongoing civil war in Syria is spilling over to Iraq, with thousands of militants – in particular the al-Qaeda-linked Islamist militants of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) – extending their activities into Iraqi territory;
