(i) ‘Vessel Traffic Monitoring and Information Systems’ (VTMIS) means systems deployed to monitor and manage traffic and maritime transport, using information from Automatic Identification Systems of Ships (AIS), Long-Range Identification and Tracking of Ships (LRIT), coastal radar systems and radio communications as provided in Directive 2002/59/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 June 2002 establishing a Community vessel traffic monitoring and information system and repealing Council Directive 93/75/EEC and includes the integration of national SafeSeaNet;
(i) "systèmes de suivi du trafic des navires et d'information" (VTMIS), des systèmes développés pour suivre et gérer le trafic et le transport maritime à l'aide d'informations obtenues à partir des systèmes automatiques d'identification des navires (SAI), de l'identification et du suivi des navires sur longues distances (LRIT), des systèmes de radar côtiers et des communications radio prévus dans la directive 2002/59/CE du Parlement européen et du Conseil du 27 juin 2002 relative à la mise en place d'un système communautaire de suivi du trafic des navires et d'information, et abrogeant la directive 93/75/CEE du Conseil, notamment l'intégration du système national SafeSeaNet;

V. whereas the European Maritime Safety Agency already provides technical assistance to the Commission in the development and implementation of EU legislation on maritime safety and has been given operational tasks in the field of oil pollution response, satellite monitoring and the long-range identification and tracking of vessels,
