En ce qui concerne le Moyen-Orient, le président Aznar a rappelé la nécessité d’agir avec la plus grande célérité afin non seulement de parvenir à un cessez-le-feu, mais également de voir les efforts déployés pour arriver à une solution s’accompagner d’un rayonnement politique. Du côté des États-Unis, le président Bush et le secrétaire d’État Colin Powell ont rappelé que le contenu du discours présidentiel prononcé le 4 avril restait d’actualité, mais qu’il leur fallait rendre hommage à l’esprit constructif dont les Saoudiens, les Jordaniens et d'autres arabes modérés faisaient preuve.
