Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(e), the Committee proceeded to consider Chapter10 (Indian and Northern Affairs - Funding Arrangements for First Nations: Follow-up) of the April 1999 Report of the Auditor General of Canada.

– (ES) Mr President, I voted in favour of this initiative in order to condemn the mass human rights violations and the use of rape as a weapon of war against women, boys, girls and babies; in order to ask for those implicated to be held responsible; in order to demand more commitment from the United Nations following the failure of the actions of the United Nations Organisation Stabilisation Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo; in order to demand a political solution to the armed conflict, which needs to happen by resuming the dialogue on the peace process; and in order to demand greater commitment from the Great Lakes region to promoting peace and stability in the region.
– (ES) Monsieur le Président, j’ai voté pour cette initiative afin de condamner les violations massives des droits de l’homme et l’usage du viol comme arme de guerre contre des femmes, des enfants et les bébés; afin de demander que la responsabilité de ceux qui y sont impliqués soit établie; afin d’exiger un plus grand engagement des Nations unies à la suite de l’échec des actions de la mission de stabilisation de l’Organisation des Nations unies en République démocratique du Congo; afin d’exiger une solution politique au conflit armé, solution qui doit être trouvée moyennant la reprise du dialogue sur le processus de paix; et afin d’exiger un plus grand engagement de la région des Grands Lacs afin de promouvoir la paix et la stabilité dans la région.

74. Calls on its competent committee to engage in close and regular dialogue with the committees on immigration of the national parliaments, and to continue its cooperation with the Committee on Migration, Refugees and Population of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe;
74. appelle sa commission compétente à entretenir un dialogue étroit et régulier avec ses homologues des parlements nationaux en charge des questions liées à l'immigration et à poursuivre sa coopération avec la commission des migrations, des réfugiés et de la population de l'Assemblée parlementaire du Conseil de l'Europe;

17. Calls on Member States to improve the balance between men and women when they nominate such national experts and committee members;
