The development of a true internal market in natural gas, through a network connected across the Community, should be one of the main goals of this Directive and regulatory issues on cross border interconnections and regional markets should, therefore, be one of the main tasks of the regulatory authorities, in close cooperation with the Agency where relevant.

With effect from 1 January 2006 for new types and from 1 January 2007 for all types, vehicles of category N1 classes II and III and vehicles of category M1, the maximum mass of which exceeds 2500 kg, running permanently or part-time on either LPG or natural gas fuel, must be fitted with an OBD system for emission control in accordance with Annex XI".

In view of the small-scale fire on the Athens road caused by a natural gas leak, and allegations by seismologists that the installations are dangerous, and given the serious accidents of a similar nature in earthquake-prone, densely populated areas such as Kobe in Japan and Los Angeles in the USA, can the Commission say whether DEPA's main network installations and the pipelines for supplying gas to consumers have been constructed in accordance with all the international safety standards?
Considérant qu'un incendie de faible ampleur s'est produit dans une rue d'Athènes à la suite d'une fuite de gaz naturel, que des sismologues ont attiré l'attention sur le caractère dangereux des installations et que de graves accidents dus au gaz se sont produits dans des zones à risques sismiques et fortement peuplées, comme à Kobe (Japon) et à Los Angeles (États-Unis), la Commission pourrait-elle indiquer si les installations des réseaux centraux de la DEPA et les installations de distribution de gaz aux consommateurs ont été réalisées conformément à toutes les normes internationales de sécurité?
