IN-CONTEXT TRANSLATIONS

30. Deplores the negative vote and obstructive behaviour by EU Member States in relation to the establishment of the Open-ended Inter-Governmental Working Group (IGWG) on the elaboration of an international legally binding instrument on transnational corporations and other business enterprises with respect to human rights; welcomes the work so far of the IGWG and calls on the EU and its Member States to constructively engage in the negotiations;

Requests that the Commission and the EEAS encourage EU Delegations around the world to engage with EU businesses in order to promote respect for human rights, and to ensure that ‘business and human rights’ is included among the focus themes in local calls for proposals under the European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR); calls for the EU and its Member States to actively participate from the onset in the discussions on the open-ended inter-governmental working group towards the elaboration of a legally binding international instrument on business and human rights within the UN system;

H. Biosafety 21. The Council, taking note of the report of the panel of experts, which states that there is a need for international action on safety in biotechnology as well as the comments and suggestions presented during the meeting of the open-ended ad hoc group of experts on biosafety, concludes that there is sufficient evidence to indicate that there is an urgent need for international action on safety in biotechnology.
H. Sécurité biologique 21. Le Conseil, prenant acte du rapport du groupe spécial d'experts concluant à la nécessité d'une action internationale pour la sécurité en biotechnologie, ainsi que des observations et suggestions formulées au cours de la réunion du groupe spécial à composition non limitée d'experts en biotechnologie, conclut que suffisamment d'éléments prouvent la nécessité et l'urgence d'adopter une action internationale pour la sécurité en biotechnologie.
