The Commission's contribution to JESSI's launching phase will be twofold: - to continue the work carried out under the ESPRIT programme which meets JESSI's objectives; this involves in particular advanced microelectronic technology which was the subject of a new invitation to tender at the end of May 1989; - a special project which meets the criteria set for the ESPRIT programme, covering one aspect of the operations provided for in the "technology" section of JESSI, the other operations being financed by the governments involved.
