Finally, in Azerbaijan, part of which lies in modern-day Iran, a form of Osmanli-Turkish is spoken (which is not true of all the Turkish-speaking States of Central Asia), which from 1929 to 1939 was written in Latin characters, and then in Cyrillic, and since 1991 once more in Latin characters; with regard to religion, Shiite Islam predominates, as in Iran, as opposed to Turkey where the majority of the population is Sunni.
Enfin, l'Azerbaïdjan, dont une partie s'étend dans l'Iran actuel, parle une variante du turc osmanli (ce qui n'est pas le cas de tous les Etats turcophones d'Asie centrale), écrite entre 1929 et 1939 en caractères latins, puis ensuite en caractères cyrilliques et depuis 1991 à nouveau en caractères latins; quant à la religion, c'est la variante chiite de l'Islam qui y prédomine (comme en Iran) alors qu'en Turquie, la population est majoritairement sunnite.
