This conference, hosted by the Spanish Ministry for Industry and Energy, provided the opportunity to present the results of a study called PAGIS, which is the acronym for "Performance Assessment of Geological Isolation Systems".
Ce colloque, tenu au Ministère espagnol de l'industrie et de l'Energie, a été l'occasion de présenter les résultats d'une étude dénommée PAGIS, acronyme de "Performance Assessment of Geological Isolation System".

The question which had been posed in 1982 to the scientists in PAGIS was the following : is it possible to safely dispose of highly radioactive waste - waste which is considered to be the most dangerous - in a repository in geological formations ?
La question qui avait été posée en 1982 aux scientifiques de PAGIS était la suivante : est-il possible de stocker de façon sûre les déchets radioactifs de haute activité - déchets considérés comme les plus dangereux - dans un dépôt réalisé en formations géologiques profondes ?

The scientist involved, from the countries of the Community, in the PAGIS projects are of the opinion that well chosen deep underground repositories represent a valid and certain solution for the problem of safe disposal of radioactive waste.
