In its 1995 Accounting Strategy5 the Commission expressed its preference for IAS as the set of standards for EU companies wishing to raise capital on an international and pan-European basis.
Dans son document de 19955 définissant sa stratégie comptable, la Commission avait exprimé sa préférence pour les normes IAS et préconisé l'adoption de ce corps de règles par les sociétés de l'Union souhaitant lever des capitaux à l'échelle internationale ou paneuropéenne.

The IAEA together with the World Health Organisation, the Food and Agricultural Organisation, the International Labour Organisation, the Nuclear Energy Agency of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development, and the Pan-American Health Organisation have revised the International Basic Safety Standards in the light of the ICRP's new Publication 103, and the Commission has informed the IAEA of its decision of 6 August 2012 to co-sponsor that document on behalf of the European Atomic Energy Community.

The Commission also presented today a 5G Action Plan, which foresees a common EU calendar for a coordinated 5G commercial launch in 2020, as well as joint work with Member States and industry stakeholders to identify and allocate spectrum bands for 5G, organise pan-European 5G trials as of 2018, promote common global 5G standards and encourage the adoption of national 5G deployment roadmaps across all EU Member States.
La Commission a également présenté aujourd’hui un plan d’action pour la 5G, qui prévoit un calendrier européen commun pour un lancement commercial coordonné des services de 5G en 2020, ainsi qu’une collaboration avec les États membres et les acteurs du secteur pour identifier et allouer les fréquences du spectre radioélectrique pour la 5G, l’organisation d’essais de 5G paneuropéens à partir de 2018, la promotion de normes mondiales 5G communes et une incitation à l’adoption de feuilles de route nationales pour le déploiement de la 5G dans tous les pays de l’Union.

We share the assessment of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, which has expressed its deep concern over the serious violent incidents which occurred in the demonstrations both for and against the government of President Chávez and which has urged the Venezuelan government to control demonstrations – I quote – ‘within the framework of respect for human rights according to inter-American standards’.
Nous partageons l’avis de la Commission interaméricaine des droits de l’homme, qui a exprimé ses profondes inquiétudes sur les incidents graves et violents survenus lors des manifestations pour et contre le gouvernement du président Chávez, et qui a invité le gouvernement vénézuélien à maîtriser les manifestations, je cite, «dans le cadre du respect des droits de l’homme conformément aux normes interaméricaines».

In the light of such a disastrous situation, one can only hope that the European Commission will finally succeed in taking a realistic initiative which is of a standard that befits the European Union. After all, it is not set in stone that Europe should lag behind the American film industry.
Face à une situation aussi désastreuse, on ne peut qu’espérer que la Commission européenne parviendra finalement à prendre une initiative réelle, digne du niveau qui devrait être celui de l’Union européenne. Aucune loi écrite n’oblige l’industrie cinématographique européenne à rester derrière sa concurrente américaine.

Secondly, as Mr Lehne has said, the adoption of international accounting standards by the Community involves a second part, the negotiation with the competent authorities in the United States – not with the government of the United States, but above all with the Securities and Exchanges Commission – of standards which prevent European companies from having to conform to dual accounting requirements in order to operate in Europe and in North American markets.
