Leo Housakos: Honourable senators, I have the honour to table, in both official languages, the report of the Canadian parliamentary delegation of the Canada-Europe Parliamentary Association, respecting its participation in the Parliamentary Mission to Athens, Greece, the next country to hold the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union and Zagreb, Croatia, the newest country to join the European Union, from November 14 to 20, 2013.
L'honorable Leo Housakos : Honorables sénateurs, j'ai l'honneur de déposer, dans les deux langues officielles, le rapport de la délégation parlementaire canadienne de l'Association parlementaire Canada-Europe, concernant sa participation à la mission parlementaire à Athènes, en Grèce, prochain pays à exercer la présidence tournante du Conseil de l'Union européenne, ainsi qu'à Zagreb, en Croatie, dernier pays à s'être joint à l'Union européenne, du 14 au 20 novembre 2013.

I apologise to the general public, which does not understand a word of what we are discussing, but I can definitely say that transparency and parliamentary control of European Union issues will be much better after this regulation is adopted.

I would like to remind you that an extremely large majority of the political groups in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe three weeks ago adopted a recommendation that not only recognised and applauded the European Union’s initiative to provide itself with a Charter of Fundamental Rights, but which also supported and looked favourably on the European Union actually signing the European Convention on Human Rights.
