Following my husband's diagnosis with prostate cancer and the recognition that the Gleason score, which measures the intensity of cancer, indicated that the cancer had spread beyond the prostate gland and therefore he was not a candidate for surgery, his treatment was external beam radiation, followed by radioactive seed implants, a therapy called brachytherapy, followed by hormone therapy.
