(7) The Community and its Member States were signatories to the Declaration and Platform for Action of the 1995 Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, which stressed the need for action against world-wide obstacles to gender equality and established gender mainstreaming as a strategy to promote gender equality.
(7) La Communauté et ses États membres ont signé la déclaration et la plate-forme d'action de la quatrième conférence mondiale sur les femmes de Pékin, en 1995, qui soulignaient la nécessité de lutter contre les entraves à l'égalité des sexes dans le monde et ont fait de l'intégration de cette dimension une stratégie de promotion de l'égalité entre les femmes et les hommes.

(4) These principles are recognised in the United Nations Convention of 1979 on the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women, the United Nations Convention of 1989 on the rights of the child, the Vienna Declaration of 1993 on the elimination of violence against women, the Declaration and Platform of Action adopted at the IVth Conference on women held in Beijing in 1995, the Declaration and the Plan of Action against the sex trade and the exploitation of minors adopted at the Stockholm Conference in 1996, and the Lisbon Declaration of 1998 on youth policies and programmes of the world conference of ministers of youth.

The Commission hopes that the participants in the World Conference take account of the European Union's action against racism as well as the recommendations presented by the Commission at the Regional European Conference in October 2000.
La Commission souhaite que les participants à la Conférence mondiale prennent en considération l'action de l'Union européenne contre le racisme ainsi que les recommandations présentées par la Commission lors de la Conférence régionale européenne en octobre 2000.
